i screwed spamassassin

This might be something...   even after re-installing SA with the script
from the website, I don't have sa-update on my system.

Once you've done an sa-update, it won't be using the files in 
/usr/share/spamassassin anyway, it will be using the stuff under 
/var/lib/spamassassin instead. Do a "sa-update -D" first time, to make 
sure it is working. You might need to download and install a GPG key for

it, it tells you what to type.
