Yes, because it will re-attempt connection if lost, and if still not available will still allow email to be processed.

I'd not heard of policyd before. You say the reliability is better, in what way? Is is more tolerant of interruptions to the mysql database?

Personally I have found PolicyD (http://www.policyd.org/) to have better performance and reliability than SQLgrey.

Sorry ☺ My Linux noobness showing again… Postfix is what I am using. I found a few how-to’s for spam gateways and it wasn’t until one specific one (http://www.howtoforge.com/postfix_antispam_mailscanner_clamav_ubuntu ) that went smooth which sort of defined what I was going to use.
So do you have it all working now ?
For the record, I use postgrey with postfix (obviously) http://postgrey.schweikert.ch/
Works very well.
