MailScanner <defunct> and 100% CPU from time to time

I suspect you mean version 2.46 of the ConfigServer installation
script for cPanel servers, rather than the version of MailScanner
itself. The ConfigServer install script v2.46 installed MailScanner
v4.56.8.
