What is your "Max Children" set to? I would suspect it's 5. Do a
    ps ax | grep MailScanner
and you will see what all the processes are doing. Don't just kill 
processes on a whim, that's a real dangerous game to play. Having 
(2*maxchildren+1) processes is quite normal.
