The echo utility writes its arguments, separated  by  BLANKs
      and  terminated  by  a  NEWLINE,  to the standard output. If
      there are no arguments, only the NEWLINE character  will  be
      written.

We use the -n to avoid the newline output so we can have the result on 
the same line, so if solaris we'd need use \c  to avoid it it seems.
  \c    Print line without new-line. All characters fol-
                  lowing the \c in the argument are ignored.
