Thanks Martin, really appreciate your help here. The problem was a
misconfigured blacklist in /etc/MailScsnner/spam.lists.conf MailScanner
must have been trying and erroring constantly and not bothering to time
out on the blacklist. I've corrected this now and all looks to be good.
