Could be one of a hundred things

stop mailscanner then run:
./MailScanner --lint
If obvious errors, correct and re run ./MailScanner --debug --lint

Also tell us your:
 	MTA and version (and if Sendmail, your lock type)
 	MailScanner version
 	OS
 	Anti-Virus and version
