Blocking imbedded pictures?

Something that has been asked of me lately.
 
It is pretty straightforward to block attached pictures (.gif's, jpegs
etc.), but what about the ability to block items that are imbedded into
actual e-mails?

Is that possible through mailscanner? Is it even a valid solution to
implement?

I guess management is getting tired of pictures coming into the
corporate network.
