FW: Can't connect to clamd through /var/run/clamav/clamd

I'm getting the follow error when Clam is installed on a Freebsd server.

 

Oct 22 13:00:02 tx1000 ClamAV-autoupdate[72871]: ClamAV update warning:
ERROR: Clamd was NOT notified: Can't connect to clamd through
/var/run/clamav/clamd

 

I assume this is because clamav is not running in daemon mode. Does clam
need to be running in daemon mode on a Freebsd box? On Unix we don't see
this error yet clamav is not running in daemon mode either. So why would
this be occurring on Freebsd? Mailscanner does not require clamav to be
running in the background or does it on Freebsd?
