Does spamassassin cache database lower the amount of spamassassin timeouts?

What hardware?
What MTA?

You should probably try to tweak your MTA.  Use milter-ahead, or other 
sendmail anti-spam features (throttling, greet pause).  There might be 
other features for your MTA if it is not Sendmail.

You may also try greylisting, at least for your most spammed users.

Make sure you read about these before implementing them.
