This smacks of the dual instance set up, which is not reliable and
depreciated.

And this confirms it.
Have a read of the documentation, particularly in the wiki (As Martin
suggested) .
It's not too bad really, just a quick tweak or two for Postfix, then
MailScanner will work just fine.
