locking issue on solaris with postfix, mailscaner and archiving ?

I've been running Mailscanner 4.42.9 on postfix on solaris now for
several months and it's been performing as it should.
Recently I turned on the archive function so as to keep the full body of
mails (something I've done many times before with sendmail and MS on
linux).
The archiving option does archive so there's no problem there, however I
now get duplicate copies of mails being sent and duplicate archives to go
with them.
 
It looks very close to the issue with sendmail fixed in  4.21-8 & the
associated exim thread.
 
any ideas ?
