I just upgraded from a Janurary 05 release.  I don't think the old
version auto-updated...

MailScanner updates all configured anti-virus hourly, no need to run 
fresclam separately.

However, it is a good idea, these times, to block on extensions, since a 
few virus create new variants almost everyday, so the chances that your 
AV signatures are not up to date are high...
