If you are using an external program with the custom spam scanner, I  
have rewritten the support for it, and I have provided a sample C  
program that does the communication in the way that MailScanner wants  
it. The C source is included in the MailScanner/CustomFunctions/ 
GenericSpamScanner.pm file.

If anyone can confirm that this new code works for you, it would be  
handy.
