I suppose you simply have to abandon using wildcards :-)

BTW: I see a lot of mails from you on several lists and I read many of them 
because they contain valuable information. But there's one thing which 
drives me crazy: often I have to scroll endlessly down before I can read 
your comment. Sometimes I just skip the message because I only see "green" 
(quotes are colored in green by my newsreader). Is there a reason that you 
don't trim the quotes other than comfort?
