I had a similiar problem. I've botched up the MS install here so when I
"upgraded" to 4.38.10 I still had an old copy of check_MailScanner and
the new check_mailscanner. So the old copy was being called, plus some
other scripts that pointed to my old install directories instead of
/opt/MailScanner. Took me a couple of days to get all this resolved.
Last was getting the correct clamav-autoupdate  :-[
