/etc/cron.hourly/update_virus_scanners getting stuck

Assuming that's the only AV in your setup.

The MS kapersky updater script will still lock MS until it's finished
which seems to be the issue here.

You may it beneficial to install ClamAV in the mean time until Kapersky
get their act together, and remove kapersky from the MailScanner.conf
file...
