"Format error in spool file" error message in Exim log

[My BSD]

Fresh install (used native install.sh utility) of MS v. 4.33.3 on Slackware 10 box with two instances (separate configure files and spool folders) of Exim-4.41-4.

Test messages processed O.K. by MS but stuck in /var/spool/exim/input/ folder.

Exim log entry "Format error in spool file" repeated many times for "frozen" files.

Tried to defrost files with  "exim -qff", no joy.

>From searching the archives, this was a problem at one time (MS was adding corrupted headers) but should have been fixed years ago.
