Sm-client.pid: permission error

What permission should this have? Since this file is dynamically created
every time I start MailScanner where does it get its permission info from?
There must a place in sendmail that I can edit to fix this

sm-msp-queue[32015]: unable to write pid to /var/run/sm-client.pid:
Permission denied
