have you checked these settings aren't getting overridden a few lines
further down the file...

What happend if you just run the one that doesn't work, turn on the
mysql debugging and have a look at the log file so see what's happening.

Who are the two MailScanner's running - same box??? If so how do you
make sure that they are using seperate /opt/MailScanner/lib (or
/usr/lib/MailScanner if GNU/Linux)  directories.
