Doesn't appear to be DNS related, --lint etc show no timeouts or errors.  It
also doesn't look like a disk IO issue, hdparm tests seem to show pretty
reasonable throughput.

The machine hits a load of about 3 and starts backing up messages up until a
load of 5 at which time it pretty much stops being useful.
