how to monitor mailscanner is running

No.The Mailscanner is running normally before. I can see both
mailscanner processes and sendmail processes were running.
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mailscanner --status show ok. But mailscanner stop
function suddenly though I restart the Mailscanner daemon. I must stop
mailscanner and make sure that there is no other sendmail processes  is
running. I just want to know is there any other way to check mailscanner
is functioning except checked with maillog.
