Funnily enough that was what I originally set it to when I made those changes to the script, but somewhere in the course of discussions with Julian I changed it to /tmp.  I can't remember the exact reason, but with hindsight /tmp is better, because not all systems will have their MailScanner work dir in the same place.  For those that are clued up its trivial to change the path to be the incoming directory, or mount /tmp in tmpfs too.
