Another way to do it, (how I learned) is:

%   gunzip -c MailScanner-4.28.5-2.tar.gz | tar xvfp -

works like a charm.    4.28.2 works well too.  So far,  I've thrown some
of those nasty bagel zip'd viruses at it and it cleans them right up.
