try to do this
$ unzip -t badfile.zip
and see if this yields errors...

What version of Archive::Zip are you using?
you can find out this with the following command:
$ perl -MArchive::Zip -e \
     'print "Archive::Zip version $Archive::Zip::VERSION\n";'
