Yes it's a gateway that front-ends an Exchange Server.
The problem is simply the sheer volume of bogus connections that I don't
really want hitting the Exchange server.

Is this a gateway machine?
I'm a little confused as to why you are doing it this way, unless you
have a catchall enabled on the domain.
