That could be your problem there.

Honestly I don't know anyone that uses ext2 again.

You could try the ext3.

ReiserFS and XFS and JFS are better, depending on your situation.

ReiserFS is good at small files, and given you're running a mail server,
I'll take a good guess that 95% of your emails are going to be just
txt/html flying back and forth, occasional files attached.

It'll mean some downtime to go to reiserfs, ext3 will be less downtime.
Either should help you out a lot.

And make a backup and verify it before you attempt anything :)
