Sendmail doesn't do pop3 or imap or anything like that. It's just an MTA and
it handles (E/L)SMTP.

Yes it is possible to use Outlook Client with a
Sendmail Server,  Thru pop3 (i prefer pop3s, ssl
version) or imap protocols.

Sendmail is only for "sending/receiving Mail".
You do not get the "groupware" portions like
exchange.  But, you also don't get the email
mangling ("ugly" WINMAIL.DAT attachments, etc. )

To get some Outlook groupware type functionality
you would have to try something like MDaemon
