weird issue

I have had similar problems but they were related to a bad habit I had
(killall sendmail) which seemed to leave files orphaned in the queue. On
one box, one or more files even caused a Mailscanner process to pin the CPU
until I killed it (never figured it out but after deleting the stuck queue
files the cpu condition went away).
