MailScanner on RH 9, build 2.4.20-20.9
mailscanner-4.23-11
spamassassin-2.55-3
ravlin8-8.1-4
libclamav1-0.60-2mdk
clamav-0.60-2mdk
Every other day or so, MailScanner just hangs up. No processing. SendMail
continues to receive mail, and passes it off to MailScanner and there the
messages sit. The culprit seems to be the rav auto-update, which hangs up,
and in turn MailScanner hangs. Killing the processes below resumes normal
operation until rav tries to auto-update again. ClamAV has no problems.
I have noticed when trying to perform the RAV updates manually that it does
not always exit their FTP server and it hangs as well. Therefore, the issue
seems to be on the RAV end and not necessarily the AV auto-update script.
However, MailScanner should not completely hang waiting for this process.
Could some kind of "fail safe" be put into place that watches for this
condition and kill the hung process automagically?

Otherwise, awesome product. Can't say enough good things about it.
