My /var/spool/postfix has a /saved directory in it. I thought I would try
building the message there and then moving it to the incoming queue.

Ignore the file id line in the actual file. The date is 2003/09/23 in the
zip file, I just checked it by reading the zip file in my list posting.
There is an undef and a couple of other things.

I have tried very hard to not only make sure the write is complete (which
it was before) but that the file is 100% closed, flushed and unlocked
before being moved into the incoming queue.
