Missing email messages

I've been running mailscanner 4.20-3 on Red Hat 9.0 for several months and
it has worked great. Yesterday I had a user call and say that he wasn't
receiving responses from a customer who had replied to him.  When looking
at the maillog, i could see the from:  where the message came in, but
never saw a to: where it went to my user.  I searched by process id and
message id.  Noticed today that the maillog has the following entry:

Sep 17 06:43:52 inet MailScanner[9461]: New Batch: Scanning 1 messages,
1202 bytes
Sep 17 06:43:52 inet MailScanner[9461]: Virus and Content Scanning:
Starting
Sep 17 06:43:52 inet MailScanner[9461]: Uninfected: Delivered 1 messages


Is there a reason it shows 5 waiting and then only 1 processed.  Anyone
else seen this or know what might be happening?
