Sendmail works with df/qf pairs in its queue directories.

One of your running sendmail processes accepts incoming connections, and puts
df/qf file pairs into MailScanner's processing queue directory.

Your other sendmail process takes df/qf file pairs from the delivery queue
directory and delivers the emails (locally or remotely).

MailScanner sits in between, and processes files between the processing
directory and the delivery directory.

Anything it quarantines, or archives, it will put into the quarantine
directory, or the archive directory.

The locations of all these directories are specified in MailScanner.conf

You can copy/move any df/qf files pairs from the quarantine or archive
directories to the delivery directory if you want sendmail to deliver the
emails to the original recipients.

Regards,

Antony.
