Starting Mailscanner ??

Hello,
Just one questions, how mailscanner is working ?
I am using mutt+fetchmail+procmail, mailscanner start at boot time...
But i do not see any process running mailscanner (top command or ps), but i can see mailscanner.pid in /var/run....

In virus config, if i run directly this command separetly, that's working (both f-prot & clamav)
  /usr/local/libexec/MailScanner/f-prot-wrapper /usr/local/f-prot /path/to/scan
  /usr/local/libexec/MailScanner/clamav-wrapper  /path/to/scan -l /var/log/clamav/clam_log

So i do not understant the interaction between mailscanner using f-prot & clamav and mutt+fetchmail+procmail ??
