If you think syslog might be an issue try prefixing the name of all
files that sendmail/MS log to with a - (in syslog.conf) and restarting
syslog.  This stops it syncing after every entry which speeds syslog up
a fair bit. (you could lose a few log entries if the machine goes down
though).
