Puzzling maillog entries

You have 2 sendmail processes competing to provide SMTP service.
Make sure the original sendmail startup script is disable:
         chkconfig sendmail off
Then stop and start MailScanner:
         service MailScanner stop
         #Give it a few seconds to shut down gracefully
         ps ax
         #Check that there weren't any MailScanner or sendmail processes
left behind
         service MailScanner start
