In that case something nasty has gone wrong.
You did install Sophos using the "Sophos.install" command didn't you?

It shouldn't. And it doesn't on anyone else's server.

"just scan and forward".... "just scanning" is a pretty big job as every
message has to have all its attachments decoded and written into files,
then virus scanned, then cleaned up, then put back together and then delivered.
