Filename rules

I'm trying to understand what it takes to have changes to the file name
rules file take affect. Yesterday, I made an adjustment to allow a
certain extension and restarted MailScanner, but when I attached a file
with the extension, it kept replacing it with the virus warning. Now,
this morning, it works. Does something else need to be restarted? As far
as I know, sendmail is not restarted at night.
