Can you do
         ls -l CheckModuleVersion
and
         if ./CheckModuleVersion ExtUtils::MakeMaker 6.05
         then
           echo Up to date
         else
           echo Out of date
         fi

Can you check you have only got 1 Perl installation? I've seen this where 
you have /usr/bin/perl and /usr/local/bin/perl and they are different versions.
