try changing (in bin/check_mailscanner) '$PERL -I$virusdir $process $config'
to '$process $config'
This helped with some of my restarting problems.

What version of MailScanner are you running?

Under FreeBSD, check_mailscanner checks for:
$virusdir/$process
Hoewever, under ps -axww, MailScanner shows up as:
/usr/bin/perl -I/opt/MailScanner/bin mailscanner
So there's no $pid .. and a LOT of MailScanners running after a few hours
;)
