3.00-1 error: Not a HASH reference

While starting mailscanner v. 3.00-1 (with check_mailscanner), I receive
the following error message:

   Not a HASH reference at /opt/mailscanner/bin/sendmail.pl line 86.

Line 86 of sendmail.pl is:

   %$Headers = {};

Has anyone else received this error?  If so, what did you do to correct
the problem?

I am running perl 5.6.1.
