Julian,
I did a massive rework of my MailScanner/sendmail/SSL/perl setup on my
Solaris box this morning. I did the following:
* updated to openssl 1.0.0a
* rebuilt sendmail, dkim, sasl, and other stuff due to openssl
* built and installed perl 5.12.1, which linked into openssl 1.0.0a
* rebuilt and reinstalled SpamAssassin 3.3.1
* installed MailScanner 4.80.10, but before I did that I updated the
perl modules in perl-tar first, so it would install the latest perl
modules, and modified install.sh accordingly.
I used Sun's C compiler to build code.
Here's what my perl-tar directory looked like:
Archive-Zip-1.30.tar.gz MailTools-2.06.tar.gz
bignum-0.23.tar.gz Math-BigInt-1.89.tar.gz
Compress-Raw-Zlib-2.027.tar.gz Math-BigRat-0.24.tar.gz
Compress-Zlib-1.41.tar.gz MIME-Base64-3.09.tar.gz
Convert-BinHex-1.119.tar.gz MIME-tools-5.428.tar.gz
Convert-TNEF-0.17.tar.gz Net-CIDR-0.14.tar.gz
DBD-SQLite-1.29.tar.gz Net-DNS-0.66.tar.gz
DBI-1.612.tar.gz Net-IP-1.25.tar.gz
Digest-HMAC-1.02.tar.gz OLE-Storage_Lite-0.19.tar.gz
Digest-MD5-2.40.tar.gz Pod-Escapes-1.04.tar.gz
Digest-SHA1-2.13.tar.gz Pod-Simple-3.14.tar.gz
ExtUtils-MakeMaker-6.56.tar.gz Scalar-List-Utils-1.23.tar.gz
File-Spec-0.82.tar.gz Storable-2.21.tar.gz
File-Temp-0.22.tar.gz Sys-SigAction-0.11.tar.gz
Filesys-Df-0.92.tar.gz Sys-Syslog-0.27.tar.gz
Getopt-Long-2.38.tar.gz Test-Harness-3.21.tar.gz
HTML-Parser-3.66.tar.gz Test-Pod-1.44.tar.gz
HTML-Tagset-3.20.tar.gz Test-Simple-0.94.tar.gz
IO-1.25.tar.gz Time-HiRes-1.9721.tar.gz
IO-stringy-2.110.tar.gz TimeDate-1.20.tar.gz
MailScanner-4.80.10-1.tar.gz tnef-1.4.5.tar.gz
Many of the modules had new releases out, probably due to 5.12.1.
Note that Sys-Hostname-Long is part of 5.12.1, so I removed it from my
directory.
The only real issue I saw was at startup:
Using a hash as a reference is deprecated at /opt/MailScanner/bin/MailScanner line 592.
BTW, Colby College migrated from our legacy sendmail frontend (where MailScanner is)
plus appliance to Google Mail in mid June. The only thing that the MailScanner
system still supports is our Mailman mailing lists, system aliases, and sendmail
redirects. So I am fading out of the email sysadmin business. I plan to move
Mailman/MailScanner to a virtual redhat box in the near future and retire the
Solaris iron that had been supporting all of this.
